The basis for chiropractic is simple. The brain controls your body through the spinal cord and nerves. The nerves that come off of the spinal cord come out between the bones in your spine. When the bones and joints in your spine don't move the way they are supposed to, it irritates and puts pressure on the nerves which can cause a lot of different problems, one of them being pain. Through chiropractic adjustments we put the proper movement into the bones and joints of the spine to allow your body to heal.

How long will it take? It depends on a person's age, weight, genetics, job, diet, how long they have had the problem, etc. A typical beginning rehab schedule of 12 visits is standard, just as it is in physical therapy, but that will vary depending on other factors. Fast responders feel relief in the first 6 visits, while slow responders may take as long as 20 or more. We typically recommend that after we get things moving correctly, that our patients come in monthly to keep things moving the right way. This helps keep chronic problems at bay and helps prevent new ones.

As with any medical procedure, there are risks. Some people experience muscle soreness after the first couple of adjustments, while uncomfortable it is not dangerous similar to soreness after rigorous exercise. Other extremely rare risks include rib fracture and stroke. Dr. Hutson has your well being in mind and if he feels that you would be helped more elsewhere, he will refer you to another physician for further evaluation.
